Gym 1Malaysia or Gymnasium/Aerobic Studio KBS UTC Perak?

During our second workout at UTC Perak last week, the team of Ipoh Happenings saw something conflicting, giving us the impression that the folks behind Ipoh's latest and possibly best public indoor gymnasium are undecided about the name that should be given to the place.

Gym 1Malaysia or Gymnasium/Aerobic Studio KBS UTC Perak? That is the question

On the gym's newly installed billboard listing down its Usage Ethics for the good of the public, we noticed that the billboard referred the place as Gym 1Malaysia. Well, Najib would love that for sure but in another corner right on top of the reception counter, the laminated hourly rates guide referred the place as Gymnasium/Aerobic Studio KBS UTC Perak!

Hourly rates guide, Gym 1Malaysia or Gymnasium/Aerobic Studio KBS UTC Perak?

Usage Ethics, Gym 1Malaysia or Gymnasium/Aerobic Studio KBS UTC Perak?

Come on now, which one is the correct name for City of Ipoh's latest public indoor gymnasium?

Kementerian Belia & Sukan, please make up your mind.

Gym 1Malaysia or Gymnasium/Aerobic Studio KBS UTC Perak? Does it matter?

Perhaps not for some Ipohites since many already knew that UTC Perak had a public indoor gymnasium. Mention 'UTC Perak's gym' and many would associate that with the gym we're talking about here today.

However, Ipoh already has a public indoor gymnasium called Gym 1Malaysia and it is located at Kompleks Belia dan Sukan Negeri Perak (check out their well equipped warm-up track and public outdoor gym) and it would not be a good idea to call the new public indoor gymnasium at UTC Perak with the same name. It would be a complete madness if everything ended up being named 1Malaysia!

Here's our suggestion. Let's think out of the 1Malaysia box for a while and find a better name for the new public indoor gymnasium at UTC Perak. Calling it 'Gymnasium/Aerobic Studio KBS UTC Perak' is a good start but we here believe that Kementerian Belia dan Sukan can come up with something even better.

So, Kementerian Belia dan Sukan. Please look into it. :)

  1. The rates are absurd. Don't mean to be stingy. But if the rates are compared to commercial/private fitness center - the 1Msia aka UTC Gym or whatever they called it; is NOT AFFORDABLE AT ALL! Do the maths. Each hour entry cost RM5.00 let alone the additional charges per subsequent hour. (Average time spend on a gym is usually 2 hours)Say I work out 5 times a week for an hour which will cost me RM6 x 5 times x 4 weeks = RM 120.

Private fitness center will cost about less than RM150 per month and unlimited usage.

    Can Najib explain this?
