Najib to officially open Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Perak on February 15th 2013?

Upon hearing the news that the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) or Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak had finally opened its doors, the team of Ipoh Happenings wasted no time in checking out the place yesterday evening. This is something new because our last visit to Pusat Transformasi Bandar (UTC) Perak was made during daytime.

What we saw inside the newly opened Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak

We were flabbergasted! Almost all of our Federal and State government agencies are all there under one roof! Including GLCs such as Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TMPoint), Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Pos Laju! Not to mention Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh and public reading and public computer/internet areas fully managed by Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Negeri Perak! Hold on, there's more! Lucky Ipohites and Perakians even have a fully equipped public indoor gymnasium, located right beside the office lot of Majlis Belia Negeri Perak! There is no doubt in our minds that our senior citizens, those makciks, pakciks, uncles and aunties will appreciate the convenience provided by this new landmark for the City of Ipoh.

We were told that the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak is open from the morning until 10 PM but when we were there yesterday evening, only a few office lots were open at that particular time. The rest are still in the process of renovations and moving in.

We also noticed that the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak is equipped with ceiling-mounted fire sprinklers and CCTV dome cameras, strategically located almost everywhere. It is obvious that the authorities had put safety at the top of the list and that is very reassuring.

We also found something nostalgic at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak. Those who had once worked with Super Kinta or frequently visited Super Kinta in the past heydays would have remembered the old service lift used by the departmental store to carry stuffs from the ground level. It seems that the same old service lift is still being used today! :)

What we were told by the ladies at the reception desk

There were two young ladies manning the reception desk when we were there and we couldn't resist asking a few questions to them.

We were told that to commemorate the opening of the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak, parking will be provided free for 30 days, starting from yesterday. The ladies also mentioned that the rest of the office lots would be fully operational on the 7th of January 2013. We were also told that our PM Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Hj Abd Razak will officially open the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak somewhere in the middle of this month, January 2013, perhaps on the 15th but don't quote us on that.

Our tips for visitors of Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak

Visit Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak some time next week, when every office lot is expected to be fully operational. There is little point in going there at the moment since most of the intended occupants are busy with renovations and moving in.

The directory boards for the time being are not helpful at all. If you want to find your way around the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC)/Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak, you may use the interactive touch screen visitor information kiosks that are strategically located inside each and every corridor. There is a very helpful layout map provided by the system that you can use to get around.

  2. Qashmere,

We believe it is open to the whole public but we are not quite sure ourselves. Have to ask the authorities there for the definite answer.
