Ipoh's Maharaja Lawak Mega 2012 mad ticket rush on Friday morning. Friday!?

Tonight at 9 PM, Maharaja Lawak Mega 2012 will go live here in Ipoh and the team of Ipoh Happenings made a quick stop at Stadium Indera Mulia to see what's happening at the ticket counters. The last event we covered, held at the same site was Fiesta Pelancongan Perak Darul Ridzuan 2012.

What we saw at Stadium Indera Mulia and Stadium Perak, 11 hours before Maharaja Lawak Mega 2012 go live

We arrived around 10 AM but even before we made it to the parking area, we saw a huge crowd and long queues at the Perak Stadium's (nearby Velodrom Rakyat, the site of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun's under utilized shuttle service) ticket counters. The sight was quite unbelievable! See it for yourselves!

Too bad we didn't see the same huge crowd when Ustaz Kazim Elias gave a lecture at Perak MB's residence last Sunday. This is one of the reasons why we said that there is a huge widening gap between parents and children here in Ipoh. The evidence is right there in front of our eyes. You could see it too if you know where to look.

Upon closer inspections, we heard the crowd shouting here and there, probably unhappy about something. Yes, it was getting really ugly there. Later we learned from those that have received their free tickets at the ticket counters that many are not happy since the organizers only allocated one ticket for each person and many were hoping to get more! Dissatisfaction was clearly in the air and the team of Ipoh Happenings could only shake our heads. Seeing madness right in front of our eyes on a Friday, a day that is considered special and auspicious for Muslims all over the world is not something to be proud of and it is all because of one live entertainment show. As far as we are concerned, the organizers should have chosen another day to hold Maharaja Lawak Mega 2012 here in Ipoh, not today.

The team of Ipoh Happenings quickly made our exit around 10:30 AM, thankful that we are not a part of the madness.

  1. Certainly Stadium Indera Mulia cannot hold this kind of crowd. Astro should have opted for Stadium Perak instead. Cannot blame the people for insufficient tickets. Only 2000 tix were distributed, for which 800 is reserved for astro staff and contestants' family & supporters from shah alam.

    1. True. But we heard that the Perak Stadium is undergoing extensive upgrades at the moment. Something to do with the floodlights not being up to the standards set by FIFA.
